postcards-post 1

The message I got from this section of the book is that Jacob is trying to find more about himself. In a way he is trying to find what his true self is. This is made harder for him when his grandfather dies. I think he feels he has to visit his grandfather's grave to find out more about himself.

Jacob is reflecting this, "He thought: How difficult it is to explain yourself to yourself. Sometimes there only is, and no knowing." This means that maybe there is no way to truly know yourself, and thats just the way it is. Another quote about Jacob knowing more about himself is, "You have to know your own truth and stick to it. And never despair. Never give up. There's always hope." This is talking about never giving up on finding out who you really are. In conclusion this part of the book was about Jacob's quest to find himself.
